Candles make your home smell like comfort. The scent of flowers in the garden brings a touch of joy to your day. Everywhere you turn, you can find an aroma that enhances your day. If bringing a touch of healing and stress relief to your spa sessions sounds like a fantastic idea, you’ve come to the right place!

Aromatherapy, like soaking in a hot tub, is well known for it’s amazing health benefitsㄧboth physical and mental. So, it’s no wonder you’ve probably asked yourself “Can I use essential oils in my Marquis® Spa?”. But before you run down to your local health foods store, let’s go over this topic a bit more to help you make the best choice for your mind, body, and your hot tub!

What Are Essential Oils?

According to John Hopkins Medicine, “Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They’re made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance.” There are a wide variety of scents and blends that are used for both holistic medicinal purposes, or simply because they smell nice. Think of a perfume in an oily state, only it’s all natural and helps to boost your wellness. You can find an essential oil for almost everything, from treating sinus issues, to pain relief, and even antifungal. A few of the most popular scents for relaxing are:

  • Lavender
  • Chamomile
  • Bergamot
  • Ylang ylang

Can I Use Essential Oils in my Marquis® Spa?

While essential oils bring a lot to the table, they shouldn’t be brought into your Marquis spa. Adding these oils can cause damage to your filtration system, which can be a costly repair. In addition to a myriad of problems they can cause to your hot tub’s filter, they can be dangerous if used in excess. These oils are absorbed through your skin, and while many are designed to be used topically, they are potent and you shouldn’t submerge yourself in water with added essential oils.

What Can I Use?

The common essential oil you find in the grocery or health foods store isn’t designed for hot tub use, but there are aromatherapy products specifically made for spas. If you decide to enhance your hydrotherapy with some lovely scents, make sure you only use high-quality products created for a hot tub.

If you’d really rather use what you already have on-hand, simply set up a diffuser near your hot tub and add your favorite scents for a blissful, relaxing, aromatic addiction to your spa session.
