When you think about using a hot tub, you may envision yourself soaking in its warm, bubbling waters during those chilly winter months. However, spas can also provide a luxurious and relaxing experience during the summer season too. While the idea of sitting in hot water might seem counterintuitive on a scorching summer day, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your hot tub while keeping cool and comfortable.

Lower the Temperature

We recommend lowering the temperature of your hot tub. During the summer months, the outside temperatures are much higher than during winter, making it harder for spas to maintain their optimal temperature. Soaking in hot water when it’s already warm outside can also be uncomfortable. But lowering the temperature below body temperature can create a cool, relaxing space you’ll love.

Your hot tub can be a comfortable and refreshing environment perfect for the summer. Lowering the temperature also helps to reduce energy consumption, ultimately cutting down on your utility bills. A few degrees might not seem like much, but it can make a significant difference in your comfort level while using the spa.

Use Your Spa During the Cooler Parts of the Day

In the summer, the best time to use your hot tub is during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening. Avoid the hottest hours when the sun is at its peak. By using your spa during these times, you’ll enjoy a more pleasant experience and reduce the risk of overheating.

Stay Hydrated

While it’s crucial to stay hydrated year-round, it becomes even more important during the summer when temperatures are high. Soaking in a hot tub can cause perspiration and increase the risk of dehydration. Make sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after using your spa.

To ensure that you remain hydrated while using your spa, make sure that you have a cold drink nearby. Drinking water or other hydrating beverages like coconut water, sports drinks, or fruit juices can help replenish lost fluids and salts. You should avoid consuming alcoholic drinks as they can dehydrate you quickly and cause a range of adverse health effects.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

If your hot tub is located outdoors, finding ways to create shade is essential during the summer. Direct sunlight can make your hot tub water feel even hotter and intensify the heat. Consider using patio umbrellas, shade sails, or installing a pergola to provide shade over your hot tub area.

In addition, apply sunscreen to protect your skin. Applying sunscreen before using a spa is essential to protect your skin from harmful UV radiation and minimize the risk of sunburn. By applying sunscreen regularly and keeping your skin hydrated, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of your hot tub without any adverse effects on your skin.
