Should I Be Worried About the Chlorine Shortage?

You’ve probably been hearing a lot of rumblings lately. As swim season approaches, pool owners are buzzing about a possible glitch in their summer pool plans. We know that it’s an issue because we are regularly getting asked, “Should I be worried about the chlorine shortage?” On that note, we thought we would take this opportunity to address the concern for everyone.

How did we get here?

So before we answer the ultimate question, we should take a moment to explain where all the rumors are coming from. Here’s the rundown. The largest chlorine producing factory in the country is located in Louisiana. Last year, when Hurricane Laura hit that area, a fire broke out in the factory. Thankfully, no one was injured. However, production was severely impaired. To compound the issue, with everyone at home so much more last year, pools and hot tubs saw more use and there was higher demand for chlorine products.

So should I be worried?

While there’s no denying that the chlorine shortage is a very real concern overall, as a Mastercraft Pool & Spa customer you can rest easy. We’ve been prepping for this since last summer. Ever since we learned of the factory fire, we’ve been preparing for your chlorine needs for this season. Due to that, our warehouse has a strong supply of the following pool care products (and we also have purchase orders in to restock):

  • Trichlor tablets
  • Dichlor (granular shock)
  • Calcium Hypochlorite (in tablet and granular form)
  • Pool Salt
  • Salt Pool Conversion Packages
  • Sodium Hypochlorite (liquid bleach)

Are prices going to take a jump?

Another concern we’re hearing from pool owners is in regard to the prices they’re hearing about and seeing online and in big box stores. Again, as a Mastercraft Pool & Spa customer, you can relax. We buy directly from the manufacturer. This means that, while we’ve seen an increase in prices, it doesn’t begin to compare to the drastic jump in prices you’ll see with third-party sellers.

How should I prepare?

As your mom taught you, it’s important to plan ahead. That said, you don’t have to treat the situation like the great toilet paper shortage of 2020. Getting your orders in early is a smart plan. When you’re ordering, try to aim for always having between one and two months’ worth of chemicals around over the course of the season.

Are you taking new clients?

You may be new to Mastercraft Pool & Spa and wondering if you can still get your chlorine products through us. The good news is that, yes, we are taking new clients. When we saw the drastic price increases cropping up among third-party sellers, we took extra steps to prepare for an increase in business. If we haven’t had the pleasure of working with you before, please feel free to reach out to us with your questions.

We look forward to a wonderful season!

We hope that we’ve put your mind at ease regarding the upcoming pool and spa season. If you still have questions about pool or spa care, get in touch with us. Our team is always happy to help with your pool and spa needs.
